Choosing Equipment for Your Hair Salon

As any salon owner (or patron) can tell you, having the right equipment on hand is a big part of running a successful hair salon. But how can you decide what kind of hair salon equipment you need? An approach that works well for one salon may not be ideal for another, so you’ll need to take a number of factors into account before you begin the shopping process.

First, what kinds of services do you offer? Beyond the basics (cut, color, styling, and so forth), many hair salons now offer bonuses like massage, manicures and pedicures, or even facials. If you have a “multipurpose” salon, you’re going to need additional equipment, such as massage tables, pedicure chairs, special lights and magnifying mirrors for facials, etc.

Next, take a look at your budget. How much can you afford to spend on new equipment? If the sky as the limit, feel free to choose based upon looks and functionality. If, on the other hand, you’re low on capital, you may want to consider buying used, buying in bulk, or shopping online. All of these approaches could help save you some serious cash upfront.

Finally, don’t forget to take into consideration the quality of the equipment you buy. Make sure everything is functional and built to last, and always ask about the seller’s return policy and whether or not the piece is under warranty.
